My splash series is fusion of the Nihon-ga style of art with spontaneous objects like splash and dripping paints. Nihon-ga is traditional Japanese painting which are painted in very flat layouts using a unique paper called washi. The layouts are well designed in a simple, sophisticated way. I've been touched by them since childhood being surrounded by them and draw much inspiration from their styles. They have fascinated me and I wanted to bring them into my art. However this traditional form even though well designed and carefully placed in layouts, may look more like design rather than art I think. The theme of my Splash Series is to break the motif from still to movement. I seek this freedom in my art and found a way to use brushes that can produce very open and natural forms.
